Ahmedabad: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today said it is planning to contest all 182 Assembly seats in Gujarat where elections are due next year.

The party said that it is working to strengthen itself across the state in view of the upcoming elections, scheduled for the second half of 2017.

At a press conference here addressed by AAP Delhi MLA, Gulab Singh Yadav, a video clip of AAP National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal backing Hardik Patel was shown.

Yadav, however, remained circumspect over the issue of providing reservation to the community members, maintaining that the party supports “provisions of reservation as laid down in the Constitution.”

He said AAP has enrolled over 1 lakh members, of which over 25,000 of them supporting it over its promises to cut down per unit electricity price by half.

”AAP has organised its cadre across all 182 Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) seats in the state, keeping in view the upcoming Assembly elections where we plan to contest on all the seats,” Yadav, who is also party in-charge for Gujarat, said.

”Party in-charges have been appointed on all Assembly seats and party organisers from Delhi have been appointed as in-charge on each of 26 Lok Sabha seats,” he added.

”We have so far enrolled over one lakh members, and 25-30,000 persons have supported our promise to halve the price of power units in the state,” Yadav claimed.

Yadav also said the 10 per cent reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) offered by the Gujarat government through a recently issued ordinance remains a ”lollipop given to the people.”

”It has been given as a lollipop like in Haryana. We support Patidar anamat agitation as long as it conforms to the provisions of reservation given in the Constitution,” the MLA added.
