World Cup 2015: Can spinners spin the web on fast tracks

A left arm spinner who is at his best in limited overs cricket, Xavier Doherty has generally been Australia's first choice slow bowler in the ODI outfit. His greatest strength is his accuracy and his ability to not to go for a bucketful of runs. His economy in 58 ODIs which have netted him 55 wickets, is a commendable 4.73.

The 35 year old New Zealander Daniel Vettori returned to action in the 50 over game after 15 months against South Africa in October 2014. Despite remaining wicketless in both appearances, Vettori was highly economical, going at 4.20 runs per over.

James Tredwell had several impressive performances for England's ODI team in India during the winter of 2012 13 after finishing as the highest wicket taker with 11 wickets in 5 ODIs at an economy of 4.25.In 2014 he was England's second best bowler with 23 wickets in 20 innings at an economy of 4.53.

Washing off the image of a part time bowler, Moeen Ali has turned out to be the main stream bowler of the England bowling line up and an opening batsman as well. He made his ODI debut against West Indies in February 2014 and in 15 ODIs so far, he picked 14 wickets at an economy of 4.86.

India's left arm spinner Axar Patel, after an impressive season with Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2014 was rewarded with a place in the Indian ODI squad. In 11 ODIs played, he scalped 15 wickets in at an economy of 4.47.

Ravichandran Ashwin is amongst the experienced players that Indian squad will have in World Cup 2015. In last 18 ODIs he picked up 24 wickets at an economy of just under five. Handy with the bat too, he can provide a spark to the lower batting order.

Imran Tahir of South Africa might be a woeful bowler in Test cricket, but he proves time and time again that he is a gun player in the limited overs format. He has taken just one wicket and averages 131.00 and economy rate remains tidy at 5.24 in Australia.

Pakistan leg spinner Yasir Shah is determined to make an impact at World Cup in Australia and New Zealand having been inspired by the great Shane Warne. He played only one ODI against Zimbabwe in September 2011 with 2 wickets.

The no. 2 all rounder in the World, Mohammad Hafeez has been included in Pakistan squad but could only be able to bowl if he clears his action. In 153 ODIs he has taken 122 wickets at an economy of 4.06.

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan didn't enjoy much with the ball in past one year after having picked 16 wickets in 15 ODIs. However in 20 World Cup matches he scalpted 28 wickets at an economy of 4.32.

Sachithra Senanayake of Sri Lanka had mixed fortunes in the ODI series against England in June 2014 and was the fifth highest wicket taker in 2014 with 27 wickets in 18 matches at an economy of 4.38.

Jeevan Mendis of Sri Lanka claims batsmen will find it difficult to read his leg spin or googly because of the way he grips the ball. In 51 ODIs he has scalped 26 wickets at an economy of 5.11.

Sri Lanka's Rangana Herath will be the spinner to look as well in World Cup 2015. He has taken 70 wickets in 66 ODIs at an economy of 4.36.

Sulieman Benn has emerged as one of the most reliable spinners in recent times for West Indies. His 6'7 ft height gives him an extra edge than other spin bowlers. In 31 ODIs he has scalped 32 wickets at en economy of 4.52

Sunil Narine will lead the spin attack for West Indies with his magical off spin bowling. Struggling to establish himself in Test cricket, he rains the first choice for WI in limited over game. In 52 ODIs he has 73 wickets in his pocket with an average of 26.49 and best figures of 5/27.
