Laurene Powell Jobs is not just the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs but also an accomplished businesswoman. According to Wealth-X, she ranks among the 50 richest people in the world. Laurene Powell Jobs was born in West Milford, New Jersey, in 1963 to a teacher and a Marine pilot. Her father died in a plane collision when she was 3 years old, and her mother later remarried.

After studying business and economics at the University of Pennsylvania, she worked on Wall Street before heading to earn her MBA degree at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business in 1989.

Laurene Powell met Steve Jobs at Stanford, when he came as a guest speaker. They married in March of 1991 at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park and later had three children- Reed, Erin, and Eve.

After Jobs died in 2011 from cancer, she inherited his wealth, which includes 5.5 million shares of Apple stock and a 7.3% stake in The Walt Disney Company. This made her a billionaire and made her the fourth-richest woman on earth.

Even though she married one of the most powerful men in Silicon Valley, Powell Jobs was never a spectator to her husband’s success. She cofounded Terravera, a natural-food company aimed at developing organic raw materials. Then she founded College Track, a non-profit organization that helps low-income students for college through tutoring. She started Emerson Collective, an organization that makes grant and investment that focus on immigration, social justice and education.

She is also into social work and promised $50 million to fund XQ: The Super School Project, a venture that aims to reform education.

Laurene is similar to Steve in terms of her personal views and also likes being private.

Powell Jobs also was the one active member to shape her husband’s legacy. She advised Walter Isaacson to write Steve’s biography back in 2009. Also she spoke against the Aaron Sorkin-written movie based on Isaacson’s book - which portrays Steve Jobs in a harsh light. She reportedly also called Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale personally to ask them to decline roles in the film.

The fortune left by Apple's leader is now Laurene Powell Jobs' primary concern. Powell’s friends and colleagues say her personality is suitable for the job.
