Beirut: About 74 per cent of the Syrian displaced families suffer a certain amount of food insecurity, the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Lebanon said on Saturday.

In a report titled ‘Evaluation of vulnerability of Syrians displaced in Lebanon' published by the commission, the UNHCR said one of the main sources of livelihood for the family members of displaced Syrians is food vouchers, that make up 41 per cent of the resources.

About 70 per cent of families registered with the UNHCR receive food vouchers on a regular basis, and about 41 per cent receive household kits, while about 25 per cent benefit from regular health care, it said, adding that 40 per cent of the families have seven or more members and 65 per cent include children under five years old.

The number of displaced Syrians in Lebanon has exceeded 1.1 million. It is expected to reach 1.5 million by the year-end, the UNHCR's latest report said.
