South Pole: British Prince Harry and his fellow adventurers made it to the South Pole on Friday.

The 29-year-old is a member of one of three teams involving injured soldiers that set out two weeks ago on the 200-mile (320-kilometre) Walking with the Wounded South Pole Challenge.

The charity said that the teams arrived at the South Pole at 13:25 GMT on Friday.

Prince Harry said the group touched the silver ball marking the South Pole, and "we've all had photos, we've all had hugs, a few tears here and there but all in all, mission success."

He said better weather conditions, including a drop in the wind had helped the team find their rhythm despite their fatigue.

"We've had so many things going against us, we've got beautiful weather but bad weather before and bad terrain, and injuries," he said.

Prince Harry added, "but the 12 wounded soldiers have made it."

The challenge was initially a race but organisers suspended the competitive element last week due to harsh conditions.

Actors Dominic West and Alexander Skarsgard were also on the trek with teams from Britain, the Commonwealth and the US.

Harry, an army Apache helicopter pilot who has served in Afghanistan, spent several days in 2011 trekking with wounded servicemen on a similar expedition to the North Pole.
