Riyadh: According to a recently leaked WikiLeaks document, a son of former Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has asked the US for a death certificate after his father was killed by American forces in Pakistan's Abbottabad.
It stated that Abdullah bin Laden had dispatched a letter to the US embassy in Riyadh asking for his father's death certificate.
The embassy responded to Abdullah's letter saying that there was no death certificate issued for his father.
The letter went on to suggest other ways on how Laden's death could be officially confirmed.
The letter is signed by Glen Keiser, the US consul general in Riyadh and addressed to Abdullah bin Laden on September 9, 2011, about four months after a US raid killed his father.
"I have received your request for a death certificate for your father, Usama bin Laden. Legal experts in the State Department advised that no such document was issued," Keiser wrote.
Keiser, however, provided Abdullah with US court records in which officials confirmed his father's death.
"I hope that these US government documents are of assistance to you and your family," Keiser said.
WikiLeaks has said that it is in the process of publishing more than 500,000 Saudi diplomatic documents to the Internet, a move that echoes its famous release of US State Department cables in 2010.
