Paris, July 17: A man who locked himself inside a community centre in Versailles outside Paris has turned himself over to police peacefully, a local official said on Wednesday.
Thierry Maze, a representative of a police union, told French television earlier that the man had threatened an employee with a knife but that the woman quickly escaped.
It was unclear whether the man had explosives with him, as Mr. Maze had earlier said was a possibility.
Erard Corbin de Mangoux, the head of the local regional government, said the standoff began on Wednesday morning when the man had a meeting at the centre that turned contentious. He said, however, that the man simply locked himself inside an office and never took any hostages.
