* Gunmen attempted to storm the compound but were pushed back by security forces and eventually took refuge in a nearby building under construction.

* Afghan security officials said all lawmakers were safe.

* According to Afghanistan government, Taliban had threatened to attack on Parliament four days ago

* Afghan President was to nominate his candidate for the crucial post of defence minister in the parliament today.

* "Several mujahideen have entered the parliament building, heavy fighting is on going," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid posted on Twitter. "The attack happened at a time when the defence minister was being introduced," he added.

* The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
