‘Russia will not do anything to harm its relationship with India’

Moscow values its relationship with New Delhi and it will not do anything to damage bilateral ties, according to Russian MP Vyacheslav Nikonov.

Vyacheslav Nikonov, Russian political scientist and member of the lower house parliament, told RIR that the very idea of alleged Russia-Pakistan rapprochement is not visible from the Russian point of view.

“I am a participant in the Russian foreign policy debate, both public and non-public, and to be honest, over the last year, I do not remember anyone saying anything about Pakistan,” Nikonov said.

Refuting reports appearing in a section of media over deteriorating Indo-Russian bilateral relations, Nikonov said, “It is natural that Russia cherishes its relations with India, and does not and will not do anything to hurt them.”

He further said that Russia and India enjoyed a rare kind of relationship since they have “never ever in history” been in a direct confrontation.

“We welcome India’s rise as a superpower,” the Russian MP said.
