A French police officer today killed three and critically injured one person before committing suicide.
According to media reports, the incident took place in the Sarcelles suburb of Paris.
Those killed are said to be his girlfriend's father and two passers-by who reportedly tried to stop him.
Reports say that his girlfriend and her mother and her sister were wounded in the firing.
"They were local residents - I knew them well because I lived on this street for 10 years," Sarcelles Mayor François Pupponi said.
The injured persons were rushed to hospital by the first aid teams. The officer was 31-year-old.
The shooting was allegedly linked to domestic conflict.
