Guwahati, May 17: A woman Maoist cadre was arrested here and a man detained for alleged links with the rebels, police said yesterday.

Kabita Rabha was arrested Wednesday night from a rented house from Odalbakra area. She was running a printing press in the locality, he said.

Kabita Rabha is the wife of Communist Party of India (Maoist) politburo member Anukul Chandra Naskar alias Pareshda, who was arrested May 8 from Assam's Barak Valley.

Inspector General of Police (Central Western Range) L.R. Bishnoi said that another person, Pabitra Rabha was also detained for his suspected links with the Maoists.

"Based on the confession of Kabita, Jharkhand Police today (Thursday) arrested a brother of Pareshda, Prasanna who is another senior Maoist leader in Jharkhand," Bishnoi said.

"Kabita met Pareshda in 2002 and they married in 2004 following the traditions followed by the Red rebels. She became a Maoist after her marriage," he said.

The operation wing of the Assam police had nabbed two top Maoists leaders from near Guwahati and recovered some arms, ammunition and incriminating documents from their possession in May.

The two senior Maoist cadres, Aklanta Rabha and Siraj Rabha had spoken about the five top leaders operating in the region. The arrest of Naskar was based on the confession of Aklanta and Siraj, police said.

Police believes that the Maoist rebels are on a recruitment drive among the people of Assam and some other states of the region.

The Assam Police had earlier said that the Maoist rebels are also planning to have a strong nexus with the Ulfa and other militant groups of the northeast region.
