New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has been asked by a motor accident claims tribunal (MACT) here to pay a compensation of over Rs 47 lakh Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has been asked by a motor accident claims tribunal (MACT) here to pay a compensation of over Rs 47 lakhto family members of a man who died after being hit by a state-run bus in 2011.






The tribunal directed UPSRTC, through its regional manager of Meerut region, to pay Rs 47,69,900 compensation to the kin of 45-year-old Harish Sharma who had died on March 3, 2011 after a UP roadways bus rammed into his two-wheeler near inter state bus terminal (ISBT) here.

"It is prima facie proved that Harish Sharma died due to injuries suffered in road accident caused due to rash and negligent driving of respondent number one (bus driver)," MACT Presiding Officer Dinesh Bhatt said.

The order came on a plea filed by Sharma's family members seeking compensation saying that he had died in the accident due to negligent driving.

They said on the day of the accident, Sharma riding pillion on a motorcycle near ISBT at Ring Road here and the two wheeler was hit by a roadways bus due to which he received grievous injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Contesting the plea, the bus driver claimed Kamal Gogwani, who was driving the two-wheeler, was riding at a high speed and in zigzag manner and the accident was caused due to his negligence.

Gogwani, who was an eye witness to the accident, told the court that he was driving his motorcycle and was hit from behind by the offending bus. He denied that he was driving his motorcycle in a rash manner.
