Mumbai, May 8: Chetna, wife of leading city developer Jayant Ajmera was found murdered at their Ghatkopar flat on Monday night and the house was found ransacked, police said.
The 51-year-old lady's throat was slashed with a kitchen knife by the robbers. Police have detained two servants and two construction workers for questioning.
The two workers had visited the Ajmeras first-floor residence in eight-storey Vaishali Apartments,Ghatkopar East,to install sliding windows.
Chetna's gold bangles, chain and several other valuables were found missing from the apartment.
Jayant Ajmera belongs to real estate Ajmera Group, which built IMAX Wadala and has residential projects in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Bangalore.
Police said, Chetna was alone in the apartment when the murder-cum-robbery took place.
The couple have two daughters who are in London.
When Jayant Ajmera returned home at about 8.15 pm, he rang the door bell several times. He used his keys to enter their flat. All the lights in the flat were off,and when Jayant switched them on, he found Chetna lying in a pool blood in the living room.
Apart from the slashing of throat, police also noticed a deep hole in her head indicating that she wat hit with a object before her murder.
The kitchen knife used by the killers has been recovered from the flat.
Neighbours said, the construction workers installed sliding windows in the flat on Monday.They left at about 3.30 pm.
The helpers,who are a couple,completed their work half an hour later. It appears that Chetna knew the killers as she let them in, police said.
There were no cctv cameras in the flat nor at Vaishali Apartments.
DCP Sanjay Shintre said, police have questioned the servants and the workers,but at present they are not being viewed as suspects.
