Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government today moved the Madras High Court challenging a single judge's order permitting the RSS to take out processions on its foundation day on November 9 in the state as it sought to pre-empt any contempt proceedings for blocking the rallies.

A bench comprising Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice K K Sasidharan, ordered notice to the respondents on the appeal by the government challenging the November 7 order.

Justice V Ramasubramanian had in his order on a batch of seven petitions by RSS units allowed the route marches with a lone condition that the participants should not carry any lathis.

However, the marches were blocked by police who detained hundreds of RSS workers, an action condemned by Hindu Munnani which said the action smacked of ‘high handedness' as the court had permitted the procession.

Justifying the interference, the government in its appeal said the High Court order had not been violated and police only attempted to regulate the procession.
