Mumbai, Oct 30: In view of increase in cases of abduction of infants from city hospitals, Maharashtra Home Department has directed the Mumbai Police Commissioner to form a special squad.

“A special squad of Mumbai Police needs to be formed to trace kids who have been abducted,” an official statement quoted state Home Minister R R Patil as saying.

A one-day-old girl was abducted last week from Wadia hospital. There have been quite a few such cases in the recent past.

The Home Minister today held a meeting, attended by Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh, Home Secretary Vineet Agrawal,

Mayor Sunil Prabhu, Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte, and others.

Patil sought data since 2009 about abduction cases at city hospitals, sources said.
