Srinagar, Mar 21: Snowfall in the Kashmir valley led to blockade of traffic on the arterial Mughal Road connecting Bafliaz in Poonch district to Shopian district in the Kashmir valley.

Several areas isolated due to the blocking of the arterial road due to snow are bearing the brunt as supplies of food and other essential commodities has been adversely affected.

Hundreds of trucks and other vehicles are held up on the Mughal Road due to snowfall.

Trade in this region has come to a complete halt because of lack of communications.

“It is a huge loss to us because the road is blocked. We wanted that some action should be taken. The road was opened for 25 kilometres, but it is equivalent to nothing. Thus we want that funds should be provided so that the roads are cleared at the earliest.  Due to the blockage of the road, all our activities have come to a standstill. We have incurred huge losses due to this,” said Amjad Khan a local trader.

The locals of the area appealed to J&K government to clear snow from the Mughal road as they expected hugeinflux of  tourists.

Locals of Buffliaz village have been cut off from major cities, as there is no possibility of commuting due to snow-clogged roads.

“It is the tourist season. This is a very important route for the people to travel. If the road was open, our daily activities would not have been hampered and we would have been able to carry out our business smoothly and the hotels would have been running. There are many people who have bought vehicles paying a lot of interest, but are not able to drive it due to the roads being blocked,” said Haji  Mohammed Saleem, a local resident.
