New Delhi: It was a narrow escape for Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani after her car met with an accident on the Yamuna Expressway late on Saturday. The Minister reportedly received minor injuries in the mishap.

The incident took place when Irani along with other top BJP leaders, was returning to Delhi after attending an event of the party's youth wing in Mathura. According to police her convoy was caught up in a car pile-up following an accident on the expressway.

The preliminary inquiry by police mentioned that the collision took place when a motorcyclist hit a Honda City car.

SSP Rakesh Singh said that a motorcycle-borne man was killed during the collision, adding the real cause of death will be known after an inquiry into the chain of events.

"The victim has been identified as Ramesh, a doctor from Agra, who died on the spot, while his father and sister who were riding pillion were injured," Singh said.

The couple in the car where also injured and have been sent to hospital, he said.

Irani, informing about the accident, tweeted, "For all enquiring re my accident - I'm fine. Thank you for the concern and wishes."

"There was a pile up of vehicles due to an accident on the expressway. Unfortunately the police vehicle before mine and my car also crashed," her tweet reads.

The Minister said she also helped those stranded on the expressway after the accident. "Tried to help the injured who were lying on the road for quiet sometime and ensured they reach a hospital. Pray for their safety," she said.
