New Delhi: Shashi Tharoor and his wife Sunanda issued a joint statement saying that they were distressed by the unseemly controversy that has arisen about some unauthorised tweets from their Twitter accounts. (VIEW PICS)
Various distorted accounts of comments allegedly made by Sunanda have appeared in the press.
It appears that some personal and private comments responding to these unauthorised tweets -- comments that were not intended for publication -- have been misrepresented and led to some erroneous conclusions.
We wish to stress that we are happily married and intend to remain that way. Sunanda has been ill and hospitalised this week and is seeking to rest.

They also dismissed divorce rumors and asked media to respect their privacy.
Earlier, reports claimed that Sunanda Pushkar had accused the Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar of stalking her husband and trying to "break" her marriage when she was away for treatment for three to four months.
She also reportedly alleged that Tharoor was having an "extramarital affair" with the journalist and that she would "seek divorce".

Lahore-based Tarar is a mother of a 13-year-old son and an Op-ed writer and a contributor to a Pakistani daily.
Sunanda said Tharoor and she are a "very happily married couple" and accused the journalist of trying to berate her for some strange reasons.
She further alleged that Tarar wanted to have a "relationship" with her husband and asked her to stay away.
