New Delhi: A journalist in Kerala has come under fire on social media for explaining how students of the Madrasa, where she studied, were sexually abused.

VP Rajeena, working with the Media One Group, wrote a detailed post on Facebook recalling her student days at a Sunni madarsa in Kozhikode, Kerala.

Her post went viral with over 1,700 users sharing it and attracted a lot of abuses and threats from minority community.

Not only this, the detractors were so large in numbers that Facebook was forced to close down her profile on Wednesday.

The Facebook post reads: "On the first day of class, the fat ustaad in his early 50s, sharing the name of the 4th Caliph (read Ali) called the boys of the class, unzipped their pants and started feeling them up. Kids were embarrassed and tried to object. The 'Ustad' would then tell the boys that he was only checking the size."

Rajeena said that girls too were left embarrassed. According to her, ustaad used to move around the class during power cuts and sexually abuse girls.

The Ustaad also used to poke the girls unnecessarily, she said, adding he used to beat up for several reasons.

Rajeena said that she made these revelations at this time because she started hearing the opinions of conservative community organisations on the question of gender equality, related to the Feroke college issue.

“Muslim women here are facing denial of justice on so many levels. They do not have a platform to raise these issues within the community. I was forced to use social networks because of this very reason,” she added.

"Should Islam save molesters and p(a)edophiles? Is Islam that weak? For me, Islam is not, for me, Islam ascertains the rights of not only men and women, but also all living beings in this universe," Rajeena further added.
