Pune: A month after commuters in Australia get together to tilt a train and free a man who was trapped between the train and the platform, a crowd of more than 50 Puneites on last Friday came together to lift a 6-ton city bus to rescue two college students who were trapped underneath.
The incident took place on Friday morning at around 7 am near Sant Gyaneshwar Chowk at FC Road.
Rescuers said that a Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) bus rammed into a bike from behind, after hitting a pole near the Sant Gyaneshwar Chowk, following which the two boys, identified as Ashwin Doshi and Siddharth Dudu, were trapped under the bus.
Onlookers immediately rushed into action and tilted the bus to save the duo.
The bus had suffered brake failure, another eyewitness said.
Both the students were rushed to nearby hospital, Deendayal Memorial Hospital, for emergency medical assistance.
