Chennai: The People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE), fighting against the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP), Wednesday said it had nothing to do with the bomb blast in Tamil Nadu's Idinthakarai village.
The group said none of their members or villagers belonging to Idinthakarai were booked by the police for the bomb blast that occurred Tuesday, killing six people.
In a statement, PMANE said: "We would like to clarify one more time that the PMANE does not believe in violence or bomb-making, and the people of Idinthakarai and the PMANE have absolutely nothing to do with the blast."
"We condemn those who are behind this mindless action and express our sincere condolences to the bereaved families. We would also thank the various political parties for expressing their support and solidarity with the struggling people," PMANE added.
Six people including three children died when a locally-made bomb exploded in a house in Idinthakarai village in Tirunelveli district, around 650 km from here.
According to PMANE, the Idinthakarai Village Committee had asked a group from Koothenkuzhi village to leave when they tried to make country bombs.
"However, some people stayed back in the Tsunami Colony doing fishing. Several families chose to stay because of children's education and for protection of pregnant women. Some of these men's misadventure must have resulted in the blast," PMANE said.
