Chennai: Consumers who have to wait to pay their electricity bills in the city in general undergo the ordeal of standing in long queues at any collection office of Tangedco. On the other side, most of the collection centers suffer from lack of ventilation and space problems. But, now all this is set to change as the department of electricity is planning to open a modernized payment centre at Chintadripet substation soon.
To make the payment system more effective at the collection centre people would not need to stand in long queues. Instead, they would be issued tokens from a token generating machine with customers called to pay their bills without any hassles in the six counters. Other facilities that will be available at the collection centre such as display boards with messages on energy conservation, consumer redressal mechanisms, online payment facilities and other several issues will be installed.
According to a senior official of Tangedco, this is so far the only collection centre (besides the air-conditioned one at the Tangedco headquarters) where customers will not have to stand in queues.
The new collection centre has been opened for the consumers of Chintadripet and Pudupet divisions. Before this, operations for these divisions were being conducted at the Wallajah Road office, he further added.
The official pointed out that based on the feedback from the genral public, the payment system would be simulated in payment offices in Usman Road and T. Nagar.
