New Delhi, Aug 28: Delhi Police today denied a newspaper report which said visitors may be barred from visiting India Gate lawns in the capital.

A press release issued by the police said, the report was not true.

The Times of India had reported that police wanted limited access to India Gate because of repeated "breach of security" by Arvind Kejriwal's supporters on Sunday last.

India Against Corruption activists had virtually turned India Gate into their base, drawing protesters from across the capital.

The Delhi Police has sought barriers to limit access and eventually, fixed timings for visitors to the monument, the TOI report said.

"Delhi Police has only informed the concerned agencies that India Gate can be a potential terror target as it is an iconic monument and that while security has been beefed up at the venue, the lighting provided is not adequate and the entire area is poorly lit", the release said.

"The agencies have been requested to improve lighting in the entire area surrounding the monument. They have also been requested to create additional parking space behind the water channels located in the laws on both sides of Rajpath to prevent disruption of traffic due to haphazard parking by the public.

"There is no intention to prevent the public from enjoying the Central Vista lawns on security grounds", the press release says.
