New Delhi: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Wednesday morning congratulated Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for successfully launching the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM).

“We congratulate @ISRO for its Mars arrival! @MarsOrbiter joins the missions studying the Red Planet. #JourneyToMars,” the US space agency said in twitter post.

‘Mangalyaan', India's first Mars-bound spacecraft, on Wednesday morning successfully entered into the Martian orbit.  The insertion operation of the spacecraft was performed at 07 hours 17 minutes and 32 seconds.

Scientists fired the 440 Newton Liquid Apogee Motor (LAM) engine, the main engine of the spacecraft, along with eight smaller liquid engines for about 24 minutes.

The confirmation about its insertion into the orbit was received at 8.15 am.

With this achievement, India became the first country in the world to achieve this feat in the first attempt.
