Mumbai, Aug 10:  The traffic Police Sub-inspector, who was thrashed allegedly by a group of Maharashtra MLAs here after he fined a legislator for speeding which created a storm and triggered an outrage, was yesterdaytransferred out of Mumbai.

Sachin Suryavanshi, who hails from Sangli district, has been posted in his native town in Western Maharashtra, on his “request”, and officials insisted there was no other consideration behind the decision.

He has been shifted to Police Training Centre in Sangli district on his request, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Dayal told PTI.

“Suryavanshi had recently requested me for a transfer to Sangli. We considered his request and transferred him to Police Training Centre there,” the DGP said.

In March, the officer was allegedly assaulted by a group of MLAs in Maharashtra Assembly premises, a day after he stopped and fined Bahujan Vikas Aghadi legislator Kshitij Thakur for speeding his vehicle on the Bandra-Worli sea link.

The 31-year-old Sub-inspector, then with Worli traffic division, was suspended for alleged rude behaviour with a public representative. Thakur, who had accused Suryavanshi of misbehaving with him, moved a breach of privilege against him in the Assembly, which was having its budget session.

But the suspension was revoked last month. He was reinstated and posted in traffic police control room.  There was no Government pressure or order in this matter, Dayal said, adding, “the transfer was not intended to demoralise Suryavanshi.

In March, Crime Branch arrested MLAs Ram Kadam (MNS) and Thakur for the assault on the police officer. They were later released on bail.

Besides Thakur and Kadam, three other MLAs were suspended from the Assembly for beating up Suryavanshi. On July 24, their suspension was revoked by the Assembly.
