New Delhi: Heat wave-like conditions prevailed at several places across the country as the mercury crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark in various cities including the national capital with the temperature likely to rise in coming days.
While New Delhi posted 40.6 degrees Celsius while Jaisalmer recorded the hottest temperature at 44.5 degrees Celsius.
Humidity level in the national capital oscillated between 25 per cent and 79 per cent. The weatherman has forecast a maximum temperature of around 41 degrees Celsius while the minimum is expected to hover around 23 degrees Celsius.
With the mercury showing an upward trend, the western regions of Rajasthan including Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Churu were also in grip of heat wave-like condition, according to a MeT report. Dust-raising winds were experienced in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, and Churu affecting normal life in the state.
Capital Jaipur recorded a maximum temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius, about three degree above the normal. With rise in temperature in the Jaipur division, there was a sudden power cut in major parts of the state capital in the afternoon.
Mercury may rise further in most parts of Rajasthan as dry weather conditions are expected to prevail for the next 24 hours, a forecast by the MeT said.
Heat wave-like condition prevailed in many parts of Odisha also today with the mercury crossing the 40-degree Celsius mark in at least ten places.
The industrial town of Angul recorded the highest temperature in the state at 42.7 degree Celsius as against 40.7 degree Celsius recorded yesterday, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said.
The temperature in the coal town of Talcher also increased to 41.5 degree Celsius from 40 degree Celsius recorded yesterday, while the maximum temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar stood at 40 degrees Celsius, the MeT office said.
The maximum temperature at Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters town of Kalahandi district, was recorded at 41.2 degrees Celsius, while it was 41.1 degrees at Hirakud in Sambalpur district.
Balangir recorded 41 degrees Celsius, while at Jharsuguda it was 40.9 degrees, 40.6 degrees Celsius at Malkangiri, 40.5 degrees at Titlagarh and 40 degrees Celsius at Sundargarh, it said.
