Maoists kill four CRPF personnel in Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Four CRPF jawans were killed and as many injured when Naxals ambushed a road opening party (ROP) of the security forces in Maoist-hit Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, police said.


The incident took place in the forest between Murkinar and Cheramungi village in Modakpal area on Wednesday morning, additional director general of police (Naxal Operations) R K Vij told PTI.

The ADG said the ROP of the paramilitary forces was clearing the Murkinar-Cheramungi road as CRPF officials were going for some civic action programme in the region.

While the ROP was heading towards their destination, Naxal opened indiscriminate firing on them killing four troopers of the CRPF 168 battalion on the spot, he said.

Four other CRPF troopers have also been injured in the attack, an official said.

Additional forces have been rushed to the spot and the bodies of the deceased are being taken out of the jungle.

Meanwhile, a CRPF official told PTI that an intense combing operation has been launched in the region to nab the ultras.

The deceased jawans were constable rank troopers in the CRPF and were deployed in the anti-Naxal operations grid in the state.

The martyrs have been identified as Amitabh Mishra (31), resident of Bankura in West Bengal, Madan Lal Aahkey (30) of Madhya Pradesh, Diganta Bayan (28) of Barpeta in Assam and 31-year-old Dilip Kumar of Chandoli in Uttar Pradesh.
