New Delhi: A 22-year-old youth from Manipur claimed that he was beaten up by two cops in Gandhi Vihar area of north Delhi on Wednesday, though police have denied it.
The victim allegedly sustained broken fingers in his right hand and underwent treatment at a private hospital in Civil Lines.
However, police rejected the claims, saying that they have not got any report from the hospital authorities regarding any injuries sustained by the youth.
"The allegations of assault on youth by policemen is totally baseless. Police have not got any medical report from hospital authorities regarding any injuries sustained by the youth," Madhur Verma, DCP (north), said.
Victim has been identified as W Sankhil, a former Delhi University student, who hails from Manipur's Chandel district.
According to victim, he was beaten by the cops when police and UPSC had a clash over CSAT row in Nehru Vihar area on Wednesday's night.
He had left home at around 9.30 pm to visit a friend in the neighbourhood, Sankhil's cousin Thomson said.
"Sankhil was returning home at around 11.30 pm when he was attacked by the two policemen," he said.
Thomson said that Sankhil sustained the fractured fingers and injury on his right hand while trying to save himself from the beating.
