Gandhinagar: The infamous Ishrat Jahan encounter case took another turn today with the CBI filing a supplementary chargesheet naming  former special director of Intelligence Bureau Rajendra Kumar, who was Gujarat SIB head at that time.

Apart from Rajendra Kumar, three other IB officials tushar Mittal, Rajiv Wankhede and M K Sinha have also been named in the supplementary chargesheet.

Rajendra Kumar has been charged under Sections 302 and 120 (b) of Indian Penal Code.

A defence lawyer said, former minister of state for Home Amit Shah has not been named in the supplementary chargesheet, and they would request the court to add his name too.

Ishrat Jahan, 19,  was killed along with Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali and Jishan Johar on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on 15 June, 2004, by Gujarat crime branch officers who claimed they had been told by  IB that the four were terrorists who planned to assassinate Narendra Modi.

In its first charge-sheet in July, the CBI had  accused seven senior police officials including the then Deputy Commissioner of Ahmedabad crime branch D G Vanzara.

CBI had alleged that Ishrat and the others were shot  "in cold blood" and an AK-56 rifle was planted at the scene of the shooting to show that the victims were terrorists.

CBI has alleged that  Rajinder Kumar provided the weapon.
