Chennai: A group opposing the Kundankulam Nucler Power Project (KNPP) Sunday said it has decided to take its protest to a political platform and will hold talks with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).


"Based on the consent of community leaders, it has been decided to hold talks with Aam Aadmi Party," said the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) in a statement issued here.

According to the statement, the decision was taken a meeting of over 200 community leaders from Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, and Tirunelveli held in Idinthakarai near Kudankulam Sunday.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL) is setting up two 1,000 MW Russian reactors at Kudankulam in Tirunelveli district, 650 km from here. The total outlay for the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) is over Rs.17,000 crore.

The people's protest against the mega power plant was spearheaded by PMANE for the past couple of years.
