Kolkata double gang-rape: Bandh in Siliguri, taxi drivers protest in Kolkata

New Delhi: Students Federation of India, the students wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist) observed a shutdown today in Siliguri, North Bengal to protest over the double gang rape and murder of a 16-year-old girl in Kolkata.  


The girl was allegedly gang-raped twice in October and after two months of torment by the families of the perpetrators she was murdered.

The father of teenager has demanded those behind the rapes face the death penalty.  

Students Federation of India (SFI) member Sourav Das said all educational institutions remained closed.  Das also demanded stringent action against the culprits.  

Meanwhile, in Kolkata taxi drivers staged protest demanding action over  the double gang-rape and murder.  

Irate taxi drivers shouted slogans against the state government as they marched in a procession to register their anger and anguish at the gruesome incident.  

The death of the Kolkata teenager comes just over a year after a 23-year-old trainee physiotherapist died from her injuries two weeks after being gang-raped on a bus in New Delhi.
