Gandhinagar: For better transparency and effective implementation of state-run schems, the Gujarat government will integrate them with Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY), Chief Minister Anandi Patel said today.

“State government gives cash benefits under several schemes to the poor....But to receive that money you have to run from pillar to post. Now such money will be deposited directly into bank accounts. This will eliminate the middlemen and curb the corruption,” Patel said after launching the scheme at Mahatma Mandir here.

“We will integrate Jan Dhan Yojna with our schemes and deposit money into your bank account. This includes money given by government to build toilets, subsidy, help given to Sakhi Mandals and pregnant women. Now, you don't have to meet any officer or minister to get your money,” Patel said.

“Within two weeks of announcement, the Jan Dhan scheme has been launched today across the country. (Prime Minister) Modi brought a solution to free the poor from the clutches of money-lenders. With each new bank account, government is also depositing Rs 5,000 into it...Rs 6,000 crore will be given to people under this scheme across India,” he said.

Patel was accompanied by state's Finance Minister Saurabh Patel, Dena Bank Chairman and Managing Director Ashwini Kumar, convener of State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) K C Chhipa and Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha among others.

According to Kumar, who is also the chairman of SLBC-Gujarat, 36 lakh households in the state need to be covered under this scheme.

“In Gujarat, 86 lakh households have bank accounts. We still need to cover the remaining 36 lakh households, which is not too difficult... I assure that we will achieve this target before the deadline,” said Kumar.
