New Delhi: The suspected ISI agent arrested from Meerut on Friday has revealed to the security agencies that Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) modus operandi is similar to terror outfit Islamic State.
Mohd Aijaz, who was arrested in Meerut last week, told interrogators that he was sent to Bangladesh where his handlers kept his passport and sent him illegally into India through a river, Times of India reported.
Islamic States recruiters reportedly burn passports of new joinees before assigning them missions, the report mentioned.
The ISI 'handlers' had also promised to get his sister married and help his family financially but reneged on their promise and never fulfilled their commitment in the last three years, he told the STF officials.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (STF), Anit Kumar, however, dubbed Aizaz's statement an attempt to gain sympathy of interrogators.
“He was given a nine-month training and was perfectly conditioned for the job before he was sneaked into India. He is making such statements to gain sympathy of interrogators,” Kumar said.
He also contacted his handlers through Skype, making it very difficult for Indian agencies to tap his conversation.
Local residents in Bareilly, where Mohd Aijaz lived, said he was deft in use of advanced computer software. Local photographers in the city, also hired Aijaz's services during the marriage season.
According to reports, Aizaz allegedly sent recordings of landing of Mirage 2000 at Yamuna Expressway some months ago, and other important defence installations, including Bareilly Cantonment, Trishul air base, Raiwala military base at Haridwar and newly constructed Bareilly-Bageshwar highway, to his Pak-based handlers.
