Bangalore: A security guard Shahabuddin foiled an ATM heist at the State Bank of India ATM on Hongasandra Main Road in Madiwala and nabbed one thief on Sunday.
Police said, Shahabuddin was on night shift and as he fell asleep in his chair, the two robbers entered the ATM, assaulted him with an iron rod and tied him up to the chair.
According to Shahabuddin, one of the robbers was wearing a full-face helmet and the other had covered his face with a piece of cloth.
They also had a machete with them. As the masked robbers got busy trying to break open the ATM, Shahabuddin managed to untie himself. He took the machete which was on the floor and attacked one of the robbers.
The robber suffered head injuries and another robber fled from the spot. Later, Shahabuddin alerted the beat police and handed the miscreant to them. The guard has been awarded by the Bangalore Police.
