Itanagar: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has asserted funds will never be a constraint in implementation of road projects in Arunachal Pradesh but some of the issues related to it need to be addressed properly and timely.
He said this at New Delhi during a meeting with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki and representatives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and state highway authorities to review the status of highways and other road projects in the state on Friday last, a release from the CMO said here today. Rijiju said roads would be built under the Border Area Development Programme for which he would convene a meeting shortly.
The Union Minister, who has the responsibility to look after road projects in the Northeast states barring Assam, proposed for survey of foothill roads across the state from Bhairapkund in West Kameng district to Ruksin via Bhalukpong, Seijosa, Taraso, Kimin, Dollungmukh, Kangku, Likhabali and Nari, the release said.
He requested Transport Ministry officials to provide funds for feasibility study and DPR preparation in the current financial year, it said.
Rijiju informed that the MHA has made provisions for additional funds under BADP for Arunachal Pradesh. The re-alignment issues at Daporijo, Bame and Darka on Potin to Pangin (BOT) Road was discussed and it was decided the road should pass through Daporajo district headquarters.
The meeting also discussed the 4-laning of Itanagar-Banderdewa section of NH-52A, the release said. The need for making fund provisions for maintaining roads which are yet to start but is in possession of MoRTH and the state PWD was also discussed.
The MoRTH officials have been requested to provide funds under flood damage and special repair provisions, the release informed.
Earlier, Tuki apprised the Union Minister about the issues related to re-alignment, land allotment and forest clearance, regarding implementation of highway projects in Arunachal Pradesh and also stressed upon maintenance during construction of ongoing highways, especially at the stretches where ground execution has not yet started.
The Chief Minister also emphasised on development of the East West Highway corridor (from Balemu to Ruksin) running along the foothills region of Arunachal Pradesh, the release added.
