Amethi, UP, May 8: Five people died and two others were admitted to hospital in critical condition on tuesday after consuming country liquor at Mahona village in Amethi, the constituency of Rahul Gandhi.
Local residents of Mahona in Shukulbazar alleged that the seven had bought country liquor from a govt-run bend and soon fell sick.
The victims included: Kailash Yadav and Shiv Narayan of Mahona West, Shyam Bahadur of Purebadal village, Jameel of Maiya ka Purwa, and Gopi of Deena ka Purwa villages.
Public anger has been brewing as no action was taken against the government country-liquor vend.
A large police force has been deployed in the area.
