Amritsar, Dec 8: The daughter of the Punjab Police ASI killed in broadlight has decided to join Punjab Police as sub-inspector. Talking to mediapersons at the cremation ground on Friday, the devastated girl Robinjeet Kaur said she would join as Sub-Inspector with the Punjab Police “so that nobody dares to do what Rana and others did to my father.” Her brother Navpreet Singh was so much shocked that he could barely utter a word. He had returned to Australia only 20 days back after his engagement, reports The Tribune. The inconsolable girl pledged to avenge her father's killing. She fainted repeatedly as the last rites were being performed. The ASI's widow Paramjeet Kaur was wailing and she demanded justice. IGP, Border Range, RP Mittal, Amritsar Police Commissioner Ram Singh and Akali and Congress leaders attended the funeral. The pyre was lit by the ASI's daughter Robinjeet Kaur and son Navpreet Singh. Former minister and Attari legislator Gulzar Singh Ranike was the lone Akali leader to attend the cremation.Chief Parliamentary Secretary Navjot Kaur Sidhu was with the bereaved family all through the cremation rites.Sidhu said it was time for introspection for all political parties. "The parties should identify its members with a criminal background and shunt them out while the police should not brook political interference," she said. Meanwhile, the prime accused in the murder expelled Akali leader Ranjit Singh Rana is unrepentant. He told mediapersons at the Patti Civil Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment, that it all happened in the "heat of the moment. " “He would have killed me had I not shot him,” he said. His accomplices Dharam Singh and Prabhjit Singh claimed they were unaware of the incident and had helped Rana only after he told them that he had been injured. Rana said some local councillors had helped him get into the ruling Akali Dal. A resident of Chhiden village, Rana started working as a property dealer and gradually used his contacts to join the Akali Dal. He secured the post of general secretary in September last year. Residents of Chhiden village said Rana, who is married and has two children, was raised by his grandparents after his parents died early. They said he sold nine acres of his family land along the Amritsar-Attari road in 2009-10 and moved to Amritsar's Chheharta area where he built a house. “He was a brat and kept company with those dealing in the drug trade,” a village resident claimed. Some residents of Chheharta made similar allegations. Rana had three weapons on a single arms licence issued by the Amritsar district authorities in 2010. A Tarn Taran court has remanded Rana to five-day police custody. His accomplices, Prabhjit and Dharam Singh, will be in police custody for two days. The fourth accused, Gurbir Singh Bira, was produced in an Amritsar court which remanded him to police custody till December 10. A team of 250 policemen of Tarn Taran police has launched a hunt for the fifth accused, Sandeep Singh alias Sunny in the vicinity of Panjwar village. Residents of Chheharta blocked the GT road leading to Attari on Friday demanding that a case be registered against Chheharta's dismissed SHO Ashwini Kumar.
