Raipur: The Judicial Commission probing the Edasmeta encounter in Chhattisgarh's  insurgency-hit Bijapur district has extended the last date for submission of representations, affidavits and documents related to the alleged fake gunfight till September 30.  Eight villagers, including three minors and a personnel of the elite CoBRA battalion of CRPF, were killed in the gunbattle between security forces and the ultras near Edasmeta village in southern Bastar on the intervening night of May 17-18, 2013.

Later, the state government had formed a judicial commission headed by Justice VK Agrawal to probe the incident.  “The commission had published a notification in Chhattisgarh Gazette (Extraordinary) on July 19, 2013 for submission of representations, affidavits and documents etc.  related to the incident. Thereafter, the time limit for submission of evidences was extended number of times,” an official said here today.

“Even letters were sent to the family members of the deceased and notice was published in the local newspapers but no information, affidavit, document or other evidence in the context could be received,” he said.

Considering the situation, the Commission has provided the last opportunity to submit any kind of evidence related to the incident till September 30 this year, the official added.  The Commission's officer on special duty (OSD) based at Raipur has notified people that any kind of evidences related to the incident can be submitted at its office, situated in Chhattisgarh State Consumer Commission premises, within stipulated time.
