Lucknow : The Allahabad High Court yesterday directed the Uttar Pradesh DGP to conduct fair investigation into the FIR filed against Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki in connection with the issue concerning junior doctors.

The Lucknow bench of the court also told the DGP that he may proceed with disciplinary and departmental action against the police officers who are found to have erred.

The court also hoped that junior doctors would resume their work and extended the scope of the probe by a one-member commission constituted by the state government into the alleged atrocities by police and for providing compensation to the victims of the incident.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr D Y Chandrachud and Justice D K Upadhyaya passed the order on a PIL filed by a local activist seeking direction for inquiry of the incident.

Day before yesterday the court had taken suo moto cognisance of the matter and passed directions to the state government and agitating doctors.

Yesterday, during the hearing on the PIL, the Principal Secretary (Home) and Principal Secretary (Medical Education) appeared before the court and informed it that all the detained doctors have been released on bail and the SSP Kanpur has been transferred as per the orders of the court.

Additional Advocate General Bulbul Godiyal and Chief Standing Counsel I P Singh also informed the court that the strike by junior doctors has been called off.

The six-day strike, which hit medical services in several parts of the state, was called to protest the assault on the medicos at GSV Medical College by Kanpur police and supporters of SP MLA Irfan Solanki following an altercation.
