Bangalore: This brave hearted constable sustained injuries last month when he was chasing thieves.
Shivshankar (43) Head constable sustained numerous injuries last month while chasing the thieves in Koramangala.
Shivshankar was in constant touch with Koramangala police station for the last eight months. On August 9th, that unfortunate day he was on night rounds with his colleagues.
Based on a tip-off, he immediately rushed towards the ladies hostel where some of the men were trying to climb towards the fourth floor. In a bid to catch them, he scaled the first floor.
“As Shivshankar ran transversely towards the roof of an auditorium that had a false ceiling, the roof collapsed. He fell down and landed on his face,” said a senior police officer.
He was aided to the St. John's Hospital immediately with the help of his colleagues Gurumurthy and Narasimhamurthy and was later shifted to Manipal hospital. He was being treated for head injuries he got and was in a critical condition.
According to the statement of Manipal Hospital, “Shivashankar suffered multi-organ failure. Despite the efforts of a team of doctors from intensive care, neurosurgery, gastroenterology and nephrology, he succumbed on Thursday morning.”
Shivshankhar, the deceased was from Hoskote in Anekal taluk. He used to live in Adugodi police quarters along with his family. He is survived by his wife, son and a daughter. The last rites were performed at Hoskote.
Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi said, “Since he was injured on duty, the government will compensate the family.”
