New Delhi: A clash broke out today between the workers of two student organisations ahead of Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) polls, following which the police detained four youths for their alleged involvement.

"The youths have been bound down under Sections 107/151 (apprehension of breach of peace and tranquillity of an area and arrest to prevent the commission of cognisable offences) of CrPC," said DCP (North) Madhur Verma.

None of the four detained youths are students of the university or are from any nearby student-oriented locality, said DCP Verma, who added that a complaint has been received at the Maurice Nagar police station.

"Further action will be taken accordingly," he said.

The incident took place at DU's law faculty wherevolunteers of ABVP and CYSS were campaigning. While ABVP has alleged that the CYSS workers attacked them and vandalised the property, the AAP-led student wing has denied the charges and claimed that the clash took place after they objected to the other party's behaviour on campus roads.

"The workers from CYSS vandalised the property and attacked our members. We have lodged a police compliant against them," Rohit Chahal, ABVP National Secretary, alleged.

CYSS Vice President Anomal Panwar said, "The allegations that we attacked them and vandalised the property are baseless. The ABVP workers were roaming in an open jeep and our members objected to their behaviour on campus roads which was a hindrance for the students' mobility."

DUSU elections are scheduled on September 11 and the counting of votes will take place next day.
