Mumbai: The National Federation of Atomic Energy Employees (NFAEE) is trying their best to prevent Homi Jehangir Bhaba's bungalow in Mumbai from being auctioned.

Homi Bhaba is the father of the Indian nuclear programme and his home is like a temple for those in the field of atomic energy.

NFAEE people want that  Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) should buy the bungalow and convert it into a monument.

This is the reason that Thousands of them here are ready to donate their salary of two days so that the reserve price can be collected from various agencies under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

The sprawling bungalow, Mehrangir is situated in the posh Malabar Hill area of South Mumbai and is scheduled to be auctioned on June 18.

Dr Homi Bhabha was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1954. He died in a plane crash near Mont Blanc in January 1966 while he was on his way to Vienna, Austria.

The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) has issued a public notice inviting buyers for the property overlooking the Hanging Gardens.

The expected price translates into a rate of Rs. 1.45 lakh per square feet, which would make the sale the costliest land deal in the city to date.
