New Delhi: A US court has summoned Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in an alleged human rights violation case filed by a Sikh rights group. According to the complaint, Amitabh had instigated people for violence after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984.

The complaint was filed by New York-based Sikh for Justice and two alleged victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

The victims Babu Singh Dukhiya is based in Delhi and Mohender Singh is based in California.

While speaking to a news channel, HS Phoolka said, “Amitabh was a part of the Gandhi family. He was a very very powerful person at that time. Among those people who are still alive and know what happened in the government, probably Amitabh Bachan is the only one.”

The court has directed Bachchan to respond in 21 days after he is served the summons.

Over the past several years, SFJ has unsuccessfully tried to drag several Indian leaders to US courts in the alleged human rights violations cases.
