Ahmedabad, Feb 1: The BJP is still  non-committal on whether Narendra Modi, who had refrained from campaigning in Uttarakhand and Punjab, will champion its cause in Uttar Pradesh.

“There are no differences within the party with regard to the election campaign in Uttar Pradesh. Everybody is going (there) as per own convenience,” was what party leader L K Advani said, when asked whether there were any issues because of which Modi was not campaigning in the key northern state.

“We have many campaigners. And we are optimistic about it (campaign),” he said, adding he would himself hit the campaign trail in Uttar Pradesh from February 4.

Modi had skipped campaigning for the party in Punjab and Uttarakhand, where the elections were held yesterday, apparently unhappy with the party re-inducting his arch-rival Sanjay Joshi.

Yesterday when asked about Modi's campaign yet to kick off in Uttar Pradesh, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman had said, “He is one of our listed star campaigners... Let's see.”

Advani was here to attend a meeting of the vigilance and monitoring committee of Gandhinagar parliamentary constituency, headed by him.
