Mumbai: In what is seen as a major setback to central agencies' efforts to tackle looming influence of ISIS on Indian Youths, three youths from Mumbai are reported to have left the country to join the dreaded terror outfit.

All the three youths left the city by making excuses to the family members.

While Ayaz Sultan, 23 left home on October 30, saying he had to go to Pune for a job interview from a Kuwait company,  26 year old Mohsin Sheikh  left home on December 16, saying he was going to attend a friend's wedding; and Wajid Sheikh (25) also left,  saying he was going to get his Aadhar card corrected on December 16.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad suspects that three men from Malwani, who went missing over the last two months, have left to join the Islamic State.

According to a Mid day report, Ayaz dropped out of college during the second year took up a job at a call centre in Malad  and supported his family. Wajid , a graduate ran the family's wholesale business in lemons. He got married 10 months ago. Mohsin drove an auto-rickshaw for a living, also left home on December 16. They suspect he and Wajid could have gone together, the English daily quoted  ATS sources.

If the ATS's suspicion turns out to be true, this will be the second instance of men from the city leaving to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Last year, Areeb Majeed left Kalyan along with three of his accomplices Fahad Shaikh, Saheem Tanki and Aman Tandel on May 23,  as part of a group of 22 pilgrims intending to visit religious shrines in Iraq.

While Shaheen Tanki was killed in an ‘Ighemasi' operation on November 28, Majeed tried to blow himself four times during IS operations in Syria and Iraq. The remaining two, Aman Tandel and Fahad Sheikh, remain missing.

Majeed is currently in judicial custody in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail, making him the only Indian in custody to have fought with the Islamic State.
