New Delhi: In yet another incident that highlights Pakistan’s discrimination against PoK people, an anti-Pakistan protest today erupted in various parts of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir over lack of employment to local youth.

The angry protesters, owing allegiance to Jammu and Kashmir National Students Federation (JKNSF) and Jammu and Kashmir National Awami Party (JKNAP), raised slogans against the Pakistani government and said that preference being given to Pakistani youth over Kashmiri youth.

They also carried out a demonstration rally in Muzaffarabad area of the region, condemning the oppressive rule by Pakistani authorities and the local government.

Angry youth also raised slogans demanding an independent Kashmir. The protesters carried placards which read ‘Kashmir Bachanay Nikley Hain, Aao Hamaray Saath Chalo’.

Police had to resort to a heavy baton charge on the demonstrators. Some of them were roughed up in a savage manner and many were taken into custody.

The territory lies west of the Jammu and Kashmir. The region is the subject of a long-running conflict between India and Pakistan. The territory shares a border with Gilgit–Baltistan, together with which it is referred to by the United Nations and other international organisations as Pakistan administered Kashmir.

PoK has a total area of 13,297 square kilometres (5,134 sq mi), with an estimated population of around 4.6 million people.
