ISI agent arrested from Siliguri, several documents include voter ID cards seized

A suspected ISI agent was arrested from Panitanki area near India-Nepal border in Siliguri on Monday evening.

A suspected ISI agent was arrested from Panitanki area near India-Nepal border in Siliguri on Monday evening. 

According to police, Ranabijay Singh, a suspected ISI agent, was arrested by officers from the Anti-Corruption Branch and local police from his rented accommodation. 

155 Nepalese SIM cards, 35 Indian SIM cards, four laptops, several ATM cards and three voter ID cards were found in his possession, police said.

Singh, a resident of Bihar's Sion, had been residing in the Siliguri locality for past six months and was publicly running an electric mechanic business in the area. 

He had been to Qatar and Oman in 2009, 2010 and later settled in Siliguri's Pradhannagar area in 2015 from where he had shifted to Panitanki six months back. 

The sleuths had been monitoring his activity which included converting international mobile network calls into Indian calls and finally put him under arrest, police said. 

He, however, did not wish to divulge further about his alleged involvement with ISI for the sake of probe. 

Meanwhile, as many as 24 ISI agents have been arrested for spying for the Pakistani intelligence agency so far this year.

"In addition to these 24 agents, one Pakistani spy agent detected in October 2016 was Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi based intelligence officer Mehmood Akhtar," MoS for Home Hansraj Ahir had recently told the Lok Sabha.
