Four killed, seven injured in landslide near Mata Vaishno Devi shrine

At least four pilgrims were killed and seven others were injured following a landslide near cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district of Jammu in the wee hours today.

At least four pilgrims were killed and seven others were injured following a landslide near cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in Reasi district of Jammu in the wee hours today.

The incident took place near Ardhkuwari temple in Katra, just six km away from the famous Vaishno Devi temple, police said.

A big stone rolled down and hit three pilgrims near gate number-3 of the cave shrine, they said.

Ajit Kumar Sahu, CEO, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, said the incident occurred following heavy rainfall in the night causing flash floods situation in the region.

“Our team went to the site as soon as the incident was reported to us,” Ajit Kumar Sahu, CEO, Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine said. Sahu further said that they always try to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.

Yesterday, two people were injured after boulders hit them in the temple area.

Heavy rains usually result in landslides on roads leading to Bhawan in Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
