Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today.

"A morning for neighbourly engagement. Chinese FM Wang Yi calls on Prime Minister Narendra Modi," external affairs ministry spokesman Vikas Swarup posted on Twitter.

The two leaders are believed to have discussed various issues of mutual interest, including the upcoming multilateral meetings -- the G-20 Summit being held in China and the BRICS Summit to be held in India later this year.

Wang Yi also held talks with external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj on various issues of mutual interest.

Wang Yi started his visit yesterday from Goa, where Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the 8th BRICS Summit in October.

He reviewed the logistics and security arrangements for the Chinese president.

The Chinese foreign minister also met Goa Governor Mridula Sinha and Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.

Wang Yi is on a three-day visit to India amid strained ties between the two countries.

India has accused China of blocking its bid to acquire membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) by raising technical issues.

China, on the contrary, has taken the position that NSG membership is not open to countries like India which are yet to sign Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT).

However, Chinese state-run media ‘Xinhua’ yesterday said in an editorial that the NSG door is not shut on India.
