Aligarh: A 15-year-old girl in Aligarh was allegedly poisoned to death just because her umpire brother had called a ‘no ball’ at a crucial moment during a cricket match.

On May 28, during a cricket match between Jarara and Bariki of the Jarara Premier League, umpire Raj Kumar called a ‘no ball’ inviting ire from Sandeep Pal, one of the players. Pal termed the decision unfair and asked Kumar to reverse his decision.

When Kumar refused to budge, Pal threatened him saying he will have to dire consequences. Pal even told Kumar that he will lose one of his family members.

Next day, Pal met Pooja, Kumar’s sister and three of her friends and allegedly offered them cold drinks laced with poison, which the unassuming girls gulped down.

Station officer at Khair, Sukhdev Yadav, said while Pooja died of the poison, the three others were rushed to a hospital for immediate medical relief by the villagers.

He informed that police has recovered a bottle from the site that had life-taking insecticide in it.

The Jarara Premier League started on May 14 and ended on May 30. This was the first season of the cricketing tournament.
